Exploring the Wonders of Komodo Island

The journey to Komodo Island had been a dream for years. I heard so much about the legendary Komodo dragons, the crystal-clear waters, and the untouched beauty of the island. And finally after a long wait I was able to go there.

The journey begins at our airport. We get off from Labuan Bajo Airport or Komodo International Airport which is pretty much the gateway of Komodo Island. From there we rent a small boat which takes about two hours to get us Komodo Island.

When we reached our local guide explained that we would first hike through the island’s famous Komodo National Park, where we would see the famous Komodo Dragons.

Komodo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is sanctuary for not only the dragons but also hundreds of species of flora and fauna. These dragons are solitary creatures, hunters by nature. They looked slow, they could sprint up to 20 miles per hour.

Also boat ride to Pink Beach, known for its soft coral-colored sand, was an incredible experience. Specially for swimming and snorkeling.

Our last stop was Rinca Island, another part of Komodo National Park. It was more quieter and less visited than Komodo Island where you can get more intimate experience with the dragons.
